Elizabeth Casey
Elizabeth Casey taught high school history in Virginia for 3 years and 8th grade humanities for 6 years at Community Roots Charter School in Brooklyn, New York, a Roots ConnectED learning site. At Community Roots, Elizabeth co-taught in an ICT classroom and served as humanities department chair. As a classroom teacher, Elizabeth grew and implemented anti-bias and social justice focused curriculum through a strong Universal Design for Learning lens, and facilitated a student-voice centered classroom. Elizabeth believes in building community with students through developing a space where all identities are honored and acknowledged and all barriers to learning are anticipated in order to make curriculum accessible and relevant to all learners. Currently, Elizabeth works at Generation Citizen as a Program Manager, supporting New York teachers in delivering high quality, equity centered Actions Civics Education and advocating for authentic experiences for adolescents to engage in their communities to bring about justice and change. Elizabeth is deeply inspired by Roots ConnectED because of its commitment to showing what anti-bias education can look like in practice and what teachers can do to make it happen.
