Susan Park has been an early elementary educator since 2001 in both private and public school settings. Regardless of the demographics or educational settings she has been a part of, she believes it is essential that all schools make the space to talk about the "hard things", including bias, privilege and positionality. Susan has been a workshop facilitator for Roots ConnectED since 2017 and is committed to supporting other educators to experience similar conversations themselves, so that they may learn to foster this culture of sharing stories and experiences within their own schools and classrooms. It is her hope that children can feel a sense of belonging as they hear the stories of those who came before them and be present at the table to tell their own stories. She believes that it is this process of dialogue that builds human connection, empathy, awareness and a commitment towards social action and change.
