Sofia Corporan just finished her 11th year as a New York City teacher and has recently moved back to her hometown of Washington, DC with her family. From 2013 to 2021, she taught fourth and fifth grade at Community Roots Charter School in Brooklyn, New York, a Roots ConnectED learning site. At Community Roots, Sofia co-taught in ICT classrooms and served as a member of the Anti-Bias Committee (ABC). As part of the ABC, Sofia led many staff trainings supporting educators in recognizing and addressing their own biases in order to better support students. She strives to create a strong, inclusive classroom community where all students feel a sense of belonging. Sofia has been a Roots ConnectED workshop facilitator since 2020, and she looks forward to empowering educators to implement anti-bias curriculum as part of teaching for social justice.
