Nic Birondo has been working with young people for close to 25 years and served as a middle school teacher for 11 of those years.
He has worked to create spaces for students to share about their lives, knowing that the classroom can be a powerful place for people to learn about themselves and their own communities. The heart of his work has been around creating learning experiences that empower students to think critically, challenge inequity, and to create change in their own neighborhoods. Nic has helped facilitate anti-bias learning spaces for young people and adults, in and out of the classroom, including a multi-school teacher group focused on using mentorship and restorative practices to address social and racial issues amongst a cohort of students.
Nic earned his Masters in Teacher Education from the University of San Francisco. He is deeply inspired by Roots Connected because of its work toward unlocking a sense of justice and empathy in young people.
