Anja Filan has been in education for over a decade supporting schools, teachers, and students in adopting anti-bias approaches to education to foster communities of inclusion and belonging. During her tenure as a teacher at Community Roots Charter School in Brooklyn, New York, Anja was involved in promoting anti-bias education and inclusivity. Serving as a member of the Inclusive Practices Group (IPG), she collaborated with colleagues to design and facilitate workshops aimed at implementing inclusive practices tailored to the diverse needs of students and families.
Anja has been with Roots ConnectED since 2018, where she supports educators and institutions through coaching sessions and professional development that guide them to design learning experiences that embrace the lived experiences, identities, and brillance of all learners. By integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and inclusive practices, she strives to create educational environments that promote equity and belonging for all students. Anja's commitment to anti-bias education is instrumental in cultivating communities where all individuals feel valued, respected, and fully included in the learning process.
